China mobile is the world’s largest mobile operator with 350 million subscribers as of September 2007. Its bonus point return program is similar to mileage programs offered by airline companies, and will be offered to its Gotone and M-zone users for customer loyalty. According to AsiaInfo, the platform will interface with China Mobile’s business operation support system and collect bonus point information to realize logistic and supplier management functionalities. It will also allow users to redeem bonus points for the operator’s partner merchandise or services through an e-commerce portal.
Steve Zhang, president and chief executive at AsiaInfo said: Mobile e-commerce in the Chinese telecom market is set to experience explosive growth in the years ahead and AsiaInfo’s deep understanding of China’s telecom market and leading software development capability uniquely positions us at the forefront of this exciting trend.
According to statistics from Analysts International, China’s mobile e-commerce application market is expected to be worth approximately $4 billion by 2009, with an annual increase of 30.9%. Based on the above statistics, Japanese telecom company NTT DoCoMo and Chinese ERP vendor Ufida Software applied for licenses to establish a mobile e-commerce joint venture last month.
AsiaInfo has won multiple contracts from China Mobile. Last month, it won a contract for a business intelligence subsystem, which provides analysis capabilities for value-added data services. Earlier this year, it also won a tender to deploy business and operation support systems for China Mobile’s extended TD-SCDMA 3G trials in four provinces and three municipalities.
