Torrance, California-based Ashton-Tate Corp had aleady said that it would be reducingits workforce in a reorganisation ahead of, – and unconnected with – its acquisition by Borland International Inc, and it has now put numbers on the reductions, saying 15% or about 230 people are to go, taking the total down to 1,300 or so worldwide. The company says that it expects that the redundancy payments for employees laid off will about equal the salaries they would have earned during the remainder of the quarter.
