Kay Nishi’s ASCII Corp in Tokyo has picked up Japanese and Korean distribution rights to Santa Clara, California-based Nimbus Technology Inc’s new Mbus board for would-be superscalar Sparcsystem builders, and other products. ASCII, the lead investor in Chips & Technologies Inc back in 1987, is also considering taking a minority stake in the start-up, although that part of the equation has yet to be nailed down. ASCII was founded and is still run by Nishi, the man that first brought Microsoft Corp to Japan, and later fell out with Bill Gates, although they are said to have since made up. Now he is quoted as declaring Sparc is the way to go in the workstation market.
