Tokyo-based ASCII Corp has denied reports published in Pravda that allege the Japanese software company pirated Soviet software: ASCII and a Soviet government department jointly sponsored a computer software contest in Moscow last year, and Pravda charges that while ASCII officials were examining the entries, they stole 800 computer programs; according to Reuters, ASCII insists that it followed the necessary procedures to protect the intellectual property of the entrants, and the company is seeking a correction and a published apology from from the Soviet newspaper.
