NumCom’s 47 employees, most of them software engineers, will be bought on board as part of Ascential’s global product development team.
iNuCom, which is based in Hyderabad, had already established a contract development relationship with Ascential a year ago.
The move is part of Ascential’s strategy to establish a global engineering presence in all the major international regions.
Ascential says it will also use iNuCom’s facility as a base for building up its services resources in the Asia-Pacific.
The cool quarter of million it paid out of pocket comes out of the substantial war chest Ascential was left with following the sale of database vendor Informix to IBM Corp back in April 2001.
The addition of iNuCom’s staff pushes Ascential’s employee base closer to the 1,000 mark.
