Ascend Communications Inc has released a software upgrade for its flagship product line – the MAX family of wide area network access switches, to improve functionality for large-scale remote networking applications. The Alameda, California-based company’s software release 4.6A includes dial-out mode and facsimile capabilities, support for Apple Computer Inc’s remote networking protocol, AppleTalk Remote Access, and compatibility with the Open Shortest Path First routing protocol. The software upgrade will be free to existing customers.
