Ascend Communications Inc’s interim results have suffered this year following costs relating to the $3bn acquisition of Cascade Communications Corp (CI No 3,131), although it doesn’t think future results will be affected. The company reported a midterm net loss of $212.2m on Tuesday (CI No 3,204). The integration of Cascade into Ascend is apparently well under way and some areas complete, although 250 staff have been shed in the process. The Alameda, California-based wide area network specialist says the job cuts will result in significant savings to prevent next quarter’s results from suffering. Ascend has also announced that its chief financial officer and vice president, finance, Bob Dahl has accepted the position of executive vice president, planning, but will continue to oversee the company’s daily finance operations until a replacement is found.
