San Jose, California-based Asante Technologies Inc has announced the AsanteFAST 100, a nine-port hub, with eight 100Base-TX Category 5 unshielded twisted pair ports, and one 100Base-FX port fibre-optic port. Up to 15 of the hubs can be stacked, says the company, with management via its SNMP-based AsanteFAST 100 Network Management Module. It is to ship in January, with pricing to be announced. Also new is version 2.6 of the company’s AsanteView network management system: the new version is claimed to provide tight integration with the native TCP/IP protocol stack included in Microsoft’s Windows95, and to extend management capabilities to the company’s new Fast Ethernet products. It is available for the Windows, Macintosh, and Windows95 systems, with support for Unix planned for early next year. It is due to ship next month for $400. Finally, the company has also entered the switch market, with a new 10Base-T switched hub that incorporates a 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet link. Called the ReadySwitch, it has four 10Base-T ports alongside the Fast Ethernet connection, and provides support for SNMP management and the IEEE’s 802.1 spanning tree standard. ReadySwitch ships in December for $2,200.
