Meanwhile, over in Summit, New Jersey, Unix System Laboratories Inc says it is pleased with the Defence Research Agency technology, although its own Architecture-Neutral Distribution Format effort is still at least a year away from release. Unix Labs is currently looking at the commercial requirements for turning the Format into a product in a future iteration of Unix System V.4, which is likely to include bundled installers. In anticipation of that release, an alpha-level programme for independent software vendors will be up and running sometime next year, with technology that will enable them to generate Architecture-Neutral Distribution versions of their applications for evaluation.
