Storage Technology Corp says that its device driver to enable its 18-track tape drives to be supported on IBM Corp’s RS/6000 Unix machines is planned for the fourth quarter. It claims that the driver is the first to support IBM’s Improved Data Recording Capability on the RS/6000, enabling data to be interchanged in an industry-standard format and significantly increasing cartridge capacity. No price for the driver or the drive was given.
