Meantime Intel Corp is fighting back with the Pentium P5, and according to InfoWorld, there is a scaled-down P24T version in Intel’s OverDrive Division. The part is 32-bit rather than 64-bit and will operate at 33MHz externally, 66MHz internally. The paper suggests designers will find it hard to develop 66MHz machines with the 64-bit Pentium and can feel their way with P24T. InfoWorld claims Hewlett-Packard Co, Acer Corp, Compaq Computer Corp and Digital Equipment Corp will all take it.
