NEC Corp is expected to come out with a B5-size notebook-type personal computer early next year, Newsbytes reports. Despite the tiny size, it will be as powerful as A4-size machines, the company contends. Called the Sub-Note, it will run on a removable or a rechargeable battery and come with monochrome liquid crystal display a keyboard, and a PCMCIA card slot. It is expected that programs will be supplied either in ROM or on plug-in cards. The Sub-Note will be also have telecommunications features, which will be provided via plug-in cards. NEC is currently developing chips for the machine to provide the new features, and still hasn’t decided on which microprocessor to use, although the 80486 chip is the front-runner. It will weigh between 3 lbs and 4 lbs 8 oz, and the price being targeted is under $2,000. NEC intends to follow it up with a colour version.
