And IXI Ltd says it is also now offering low-cost Motif 1.2 run-time licences for Sun Microsystems Inc workstations with a shared library toolkit optimised for Sun systems. Following changes to the Open Software Foundation’s Motif 1.2 licensing terms, IXI says it can offer the Motif run-time for UKP50 in volume as opposed to the Open Software Foundation’s $2,000 source fee. Software Foundation business area manager for user environments Cathy Betz admits corporations are starting to move toward high-quality off-the-shelf Motif software rather than using homegrown versions compiled from source code. IXI is offering support for Motif-on-Sparcstation users and has a Motif development kit for the Sun workstations, which costs UKP500 per user.
