Advanced Micro Devices Inc, Sunnyvale has bought a licence to manufacture and market products that use Fremont-based WaferScale Integration Inc’s Alternate Metalless Ground non-volatile memory technology, which is claimed to produce the smallest non-volatile memory cell possible to date. The two will also explore possible application of the memory technology to the manufacture of Flash memory chips: WaferScale is licensed to use Advanced Micro’s sub-micron EPROM and Flash technologies for embedding into its Programmable System Device product family and AMD will provide wafer fabrication services for these devices.
