Adobe and Monotype Corp Plc have signed a typeface library licence agreement which gives Adobe full licensing rights to Monotype typefaces for use on printers and typesetters using the PostScript page description language. Under terms of the agreement, Monotype has licensed its typeface library on a non-exclusive basis to Adobe, which will market the library as downloadable font programs for a variety of platforms including IBM AT and compatibles, the Apple Macintosh, NeXT computers, and machines running under the AIX and VMS operating systems. Monotype typefaces will begin to ship as part of the Adobe Type Library in the second quarter of 1990. Adobe has also announced the signing of a similar typeface library licence agreement with Agfa Compugraphic Inc. As with Monotype, the agreement gives Adobe non-exclusive licensing rights to Agfa typefaces for use on printers and typesetters using PostScript. Agfa typefaces will begin to ship as part of the Adobe Type Library in the second quarter of 1990.
