On the operating front, IBM Corp has bought an undisclosed stake for an undisclosed sum in Red Shark Technology Corp of New York City. Red Shark is described as a leading-edge developer of software for multimedia applications, including management and use of continuous time data such as video and audio tapes. It offers information management and communications software and consultancy conceived to get the best out of multimedia computing as a business tool. Red Shark has demonstrated expertise in integrating the development, storage and access of audio, video, text and still and graphic image data across networks, said Lucie Fjeldstad, IBM vice-president and general manager, multimedia. The IBM/Red Shark partnership will enable IBM to bring this advanced technology to market faster than ever and allow our customers to redefine what can be captured as usabledata. The company’s Nymbus line of integrated software tools enables users to index audio, video, text and still and graphic data in a distributed database; locate, retrieve and edit that full range of data; co-ordinate and orchestrate the flow of data from the server on which they are stored, across the network, on to the user’s machine; and produce a synchronized presentation.
