Hewlett-Packard Co has launched Release 2 of its client-server HP SNAplus family of communications products that enable its business systems, servers and workstations to access SNA networks. Release 2 expands communications capabilities by supporting a greater range of wide and local area networks and is designed to enhance usability and ease of application development in an SNA environment. SNAplus Release 2 supports new IBM 3270 emulator enhancements, including Motif and seven-colour support, and includes SNAplusAPI, a collection of programming interfaces designed to make it easier to develop SNA programs. Enhancements include the NetView and Logical Unit application interface to enable programmers to build network-management support into their applications and provide access to different logical units. SNAplus3179G emulates IBM’s 3179G colour graphics display station, and there is also an SNAplusRJE. HP SNAplusLink starts at $3,300; SNAplus3270 starts at $850; SNAplusAPI starts at $1,600, SNAplusRJE starts at $1,200 and SNAplus3179G starts at $1,545, and all the new products are available immediately.
