Also at the briefing, Sun’s European business development manager, Thierry Le Roy, announced that French military systems manufacturers Electronique Serge Dassault SA and Sagem SA are developing a new generation of real-time embedded systems based on the Sparc under the Iliade name, for controlling large defence projects. They will be using Alsys SA’s range of Ada compiler and development tools which are currently being implemented for the Sparc environment following a recently signed agreement between Sun and Alsys. The Alsys compiler and toolset will be commercially available for the Sparc from March 1991. Electronique Serge Dassault and Sagem are both members of the 15-strong EuroSparc group of European manufacturers developing Sparc-based systems. EuroSparc includes five UK manufacturers, three in Italy, and others in West Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. EuroSparc’s next meeting is in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in June.
