The Open Software Foundation says the Informix Corp Wingz spreadsheet has been converted for its Architecture Neutral Distribution Format technology and was successfully installed on an IBM Corp RS/6000: a Digital Equipment Corp Alpha version will follow. Other ANDF versions, including the Oracle database, are under way. Oracle, which runs to some 1.3m lines of code, compared with Wingz’s 200,000, will prove a sterner test of the technology. The ANDF installer technology is now up on GCC, the Free Software Foundation’s Gnu C Compiler, meaning, says the Foundation, that any vendor with GCC can now bring ANDF out. The installer is expected to be featured in Unix System V.4 in future following Unix System Laboratories Inc’s endorsement of ANDF.
