Meantime Convex Computer Corp says that its massively parallel development is a multi-phased, multi-year effort aimed at producing the world’s most easy-to-use massively parallel technology. The planned machines will complement the company’s C Series supercomputers, and will run an implementation of OSF/1 MK designed for massively parallel systems, enabling hundreds of existing open systems applications to run on the planned machines. The software technology used in the Convex Application Compiler will be the foundation for massively parallel compilations and the machines will be of the multiple instruction-multiple data type. Convex wants to create a metacomputer where parallel vector systems, massively parallel computers and workstations work seamlessly together so that the type of machine in use at any time is transparent to the user.
