AS/400 TO GO TO 12-WAY WITH APACHE CHIP

IBM Corp sources confirmed that the company will extend its AS/400 server series with eight- and 12-way symmetric multiprocessing models using Rochester’s Apache single-ship implementation of the current seven-chip PowerPC AS RISC. The new line is reportedly called the 600 series. The 64-bit Apache will also be used by IBM’s RS/6000 division in commercial SMP servers.
