IBM Corp’s benchmarks mysteriously seem to have upgraded between the pre-announcement briefings it gave at the end of last week and the launch on Wednesday: it is now saying that compared with the biggest System/36, the AS/400 Advanced 36 runs interactive transactions up to four times faster and batch applications up to eight times faster than the System/36, and that IBM Business Partners and customers have seen even greater performance improvements in actual operations – up to 10 times faster in interactive, 26 times faster in batch.
