Tucson, Arizona-headquartered Artisoft Inc has announced two hub-concentrators, the eight-port T-Runner II Hub-8 and the 16-port T-Runner II Hub-16, for use in 10Base-T networks. According to the company, the Hub-8 will connect up to eight client or server personal computers, portables and print servers via its RJ-45 ports, while the Hub-16 will function in the same way, except that it will connect up to 16 devices. The passive hubs reportedly comply with the IEEE 802.3, 10Base-2, 10Base-5 and 10Base-T standards, and are compatible with all major Ethernet environments, including its own LANtastic network operating system and Novell Inc’s NetWare, says Artisoft. In addition, the Hub-8 can be daisy-chained to other hubs via its 10Base-2 thin coax port or its eighth RJ-45 (10Base-T) port, says the firm, while the Hub-16 will similarly connect to other hubs, or through its AUI (10Base-5) port. The company adds that both hubs will support auto partition and re-connection to isolate faulty nodes and collision activity. Finally, each 10Base-T port on the hubs has a built-in polarity detection and correction logic feature, said to reduce the possibility for crossed wires or cabling problems. The Hub-8 lists for $230, with the Hub-16 coming in at $460. Both are available now.
