Following financial problems Watford-based Artificial Intelligence Ltd is being wound down by its managing director David Butler. The whole company of 30 people has been made redundant, but 10 of these employees are staging a management buyout under the company name Artificial Intelligence International Ltd which will carry on distributing the Quintus Prolog product line and ParcPlace products as well as offering technical support, consul-tancy and training. AI International has effectively bought the profitable parts of the company and taken on all AI Ltd’s contractual liabilities. The managing director of AI Intrenational is Bernard Smith, former finance director with AI Ltd. David Butler has retained the AI Ltd company name, but little else. AI’s Strand88 parallel processing language is already under the aegis of a management buyout in the form of Strand Software Technologies.
