CAPRISOL (Convenient Accessible Print Solution) combines Pace’s digital home gateway technology with the Hewlett-Packard company’s leading print media to enable consumers to print TV or PC content through Pace’s DSL4000 onto Hewlett-Packard’s Ink-Jet, Office-Jet, or Laser-Jet printers. The CAPRISOL(TM) software also automatically notifies users when the printer’s ink cartridge gets low, and can automatically trigger a replacement order via the Internet.
Pace’s DSL4000 gateways, which have been deployed worldwide, enable telecommunications companies like Artesian Direct to deliver high-quality video and interactive services over existing copper wires. With Pace’s DSL4000, telecommunications companies can offer consumers high-speed Internet access, video-on-demand, feature-rich interactive program guides, digital broadcast-quality TV video, and more.
Installation orders of Artesian’s CAPRISOL(TM) solution include Grant County’s Public Utilities Department (PUD) in Washington State, which has installed more than 7,000 miles of fiber-optic cable to residential communities, and has an additional 40,000 miles planned. Grant County’s total build-out of fiber is scheduled to reach approximately 40,000 homes by 2006. As part of the CAPRISOL(TM) solution, Pace’s DSL4000 boxes will be utilized for this wide-scale deployment. Artesian Direct is also working with parties in the hospitality industry and the broadband residential delivery markets.
The DSL4000 features high-quality MPEG-2 decoding, an Ethernet interface, and support for Java applications. The television services are delivered over IP protocol and are video-server neutral. Other features of the DSL4000 are improved network capability through video scaling and positioning; increased control of video functions using HTML, Javascript, RTSP, and plug-ins; and minimized network management costs by multicasting software downloads to any or all set-top boxes in a deployment.
We are pleased that Artesian Direct has selected Pace as a CAPRISOL(TM) solution partner, said Neil Gaydon, president of Pace-Americas. Pace is working with technology partners like Artesian Direct to develop and expand the potential of DSL technology. These deployments, and others, demonstrate our commitment to constantly be at the forefront of new solutions, and to become the vendor of choice throughout North America for digital home gateway box technology, as we are throughout Europe, Gaydon added.
The convergence of TV, computing and communication technology is providing a revolution in home entertainment. The combination of the Pace set-top box, HP printers, and the CAPRISOL(TM) solution, are the first of its kind. We are very pleased to be working with Pace and the Hewlett Packard company to jointly deliver a solution that specifically addresses this evolving market place, said Jim Copitzky, chief executive officer of Artesian Direct.
