Artemis Management Systems Ltd, newly acquired by Los Angeles- based Gores Technology Group, has unveiled its new GlobalView product which it is touting as the first business intelligence tool specifically designed for project-orientated organizations. The release represents the company’s first move into On-line Analytical Processing tools. Based on Cognos Inc’s Powerplay software, it can be used to extract data from Artemis Views, the company’s range of role-orientated applications for project, resource, cost and effort management. GlobalView uses this data to build a customized cube of related information which can be used for interactive analysis and reporting of project, cost and resource data. As with standard OLAP tools, users can then ‘drill down’ through different levels of data to get to the information they need and also ‘slice and dice’ data to see a situation from a particular viewpoint. Information can also be presented in different graphical formats and according to a particular users’ role in an organization, enabling people to see how data relates to the work they do. According to product manager Chris Russell, the company’s key focus in the year ahead will be to web-enable its existing products, and build up compatibility with other applications. Artemis started out back in 1976 as UK-based Metier Management Systems, but its mainframe-oriented business was somewhat undermined by the arrival of PC-based project management tools, such as Microsoft Project. Metier was acquired by Lockheed Corp back in 1985, then Lucus Industries Plc in 1990, before being picked up by its current owner, Los Angeles-based Gores Technology Group (CI No 3,111).
