Networked storage systems vendor Artecon Inc is following Network Appliance Corp and others into the internet caching market, and on Monday signed an OEM agreement with cache technology company Inktomi Corp. It plans to launch what it calls the first vertically focused caching solution using Inktomi’s Traffic Server platform to accelerated content delivery over the internet.
Artecon, a San Diego, California-based veteran Unix storage company which sells to telecommunications companies, says that becoming a supplier of internet infrastructure is a natural direction for Artecon. Last year Artecon acquired Storage Dimensions Inc for its RAID technology and business. It plans to combine Inktomi’s Traffic Server with its own high-availability storage systems and use its telco/ISP systems integration experience to develop a plug-and-play fault-resilient system. No timescales were given.
