Williams Cos, the Arizona pipeline company that has found a grand new use for its pipes by pulling fibre optic cables through them, is to offer people in remote locations access to its fibre optic network: its Williams Telecommunications Group Inc will offer data transmission, video conferencing, one-way video and two-way telephone services to targets such as chains of lonely petrol stations and convenience stores, car rental outfits, travel agencies and anyone else needing to reach small and scattered outposts from a central base.
