AREAL TECHNOLOGY COMES OUT WITH THE FIRST 180Mb 2.5″ DISK DRIVE

San Jose, California-based Areal Technology Inc is ready for Comdex later this month with three new 2.5 disk drives, setting a new record with 181.3Mb unformatted on the highest capacity version, the A180; the A120 stores 124.8Mb with volume set for early next year. No performance details, but both use glass platters and the A180 samples at $1,550, the A120 at $1,250. The company also has a new MD2080 version of its single-platter drive, storing 80.8Mb. It’s $950 in evaluation quantities and will ship in volume later this year. All three drives are only 0.59 high, the firm says.
