Sunnyvale, California-based Arbor Software Corp is the latest data analysis company to launch itself on to the World Wide Web, preparing modules for use with its Essbase analytical processing multidimensional database. First off the blocks is Web Gateway which will provide interactive read and write access to Essbase data from Web servers. The gateway converts Essbase query results into Hyper-Text Mark-up Language pages. It will come with a library of 50 pre-defined HyperText Language instructions which provide access to Essbase data. The gateway goes into beta test next month and will ship in July for AIX, Solaris, HP- UX and Windows NT. Arbor Software maintains European offices in the UK and France, with a German operation due on stream in the summer. Its current product cycle is focused on distributing and parallelizing its architecture. Arbor last week reported a fourth quarter profit of $1.4m, up from $219,000 last time – on sales up 108% at $8.2m. Turnover for the year was up 118% at $25.1m, against $11.5m in 1995. And profit for the year was $2.9m, compared with $374,000 last year.
