AQR selects Scalent’s infrastructure virtualization software

Virtual Operating Environment enables AQR to failover bare metal servers and associated network

By CBR Staff Writer

AQR Capital has selected Scalent Systems’s Virtual Operating Environment software to enable availability and infrastructure virtualization in its data centers.

According to Scalent Systems, Virtual Operating Environment (V/OE) will enable AQR to failover bare metal servers and associated network and storage connectivity in real-time, without data path risk and overhead imposed by hypervisors, increasing reliability and performance while reducing overall costs.

Scalent addresses all of these challenges by allowing IT managers to provision entire virtual or physical systems and associated storage and network topologies, yielding asset utilization and lower costs, said Scalent Systems.

Scalent V/OE also provides functionality complementary to hypervisor-based services. It operates on bare-metal or virtual servers, and is outside of the server data-path, data flowing to and from servers doesn’t pass through Scalent in any way, and is thus free of any overhead or failure risk imposed by Scalent, added Scalent Systems.

Ismail Coskun, head of infrastructure and development at AQR Capital, said: Scalent V/OE software gave us even better flexibility to move bare-metal production-grade servers, as well as addressing the associated connectivity, while preserving the option to move between physical and virtual in real-time if we chose. They were the obvious choice to maintain high availability in our data center server farm.
