OLAP software house Arbor Software Corp says the front-end query tools it picked up with the December 1997 acquisition of AppSource Inc, will likely follow the Essbase OLAP engine over to its OEMs such as IBM Corp and PeopleSoft Inc. AppSource’s next job is to fit its Wired for OLAP tools with an intelligent push technology that will feed query results to subscribers, but it’s not saying where it’s getting the work from. Its query applications work in conjunction with a variety of third party OLAP engines and are currently being ported to Microsoft Corp’s forthcoming Plato OLAP engine. Arbor thinks Plato will drive OLAP into the mainstream.
