Westboro, Massachusetts-based real time enterprise specialist Applix Inc has announced the release of TM1 Anyware, which it claims is the first ever integration of a web spreadsheet with real time On-line Analytical Processing capabilities. The web OLAP software is the company’s first new development to result from its acquisition of TM1 Software Corp in October 1996, and Applix hopes sales of the product will help boost business, particularly in its floundering European market (CI No 3,146). The new release offers web access to the TM1 Server 6.0 through Applix’s existing Anyware Websheet. The company claims that TM1 is the only OLAP product specifically designed to calculate large volumes of multidimensional data in real-time on the web, saying that Applix TM1 customers using an Anyware WebSheet and a standard internet browser can access an OLAP spreadsheet with real-time calculation on demand. Applix makes the familiar maintenance savings claims about its product, saying that Applix TM1 on the web works out of the box with minimal set-up procedures, requiring only a Java-enabled browser. Applix is targeting its product at any customers who rely on real-time transactions; traditionally the financial services market, although the company also cites telecommunications, government and manufacturing industries as potential users.
