Tokyo-based Nippon RAD Inc will OEM Applix’s analytic technology to an NTT ERP solution branded as SCAW (See, Create, and Win).

While Asia represents the second largest market for ERP systems, it still remains relatively under-penetrated by BI technologies. Research firm IDC estimates that the AsiaPac BI market to be worth around $1.5bn today, but is set to reach $3.3bn in 2006.

Not surprisingly BI vendors continue to eye significant growth opportunities in AsiaPac. Like most other North American BI vendors, Westboro, Massachusetts-based Applix, is seeking to widen its footprint in the region through more direct contact with customers and by extending relationships with local partners, distributors, and resellers.

ComputerWire, in its own study of the AsiaPac market earlier this year, estimates the market for pure BI software tools and applications (i.e. excluding related BI infrastructure or services) stands at a more modest $500m, but will grow to reach $795m in 2005.

ComputerWire sees around 20 ‘active’ BI software vendors operating in AsiaPac, though not all are direct competitors. At present there is no clear-cut market leader. But some vendors are starting to build up a strong presence in application niches and geographical territories.
