Embedded systems tools operation Applied Microsystems Corp has warned its fourth quarter financial performance will be weaker than expected. The Redmond, Washington company is blaming the slip on South East Asian business shortfalls and poor Japanese foreign exchange rates. Applied expects to turn in revenues of between $9.2m and $9.7m for the fourth quarter of 1997, down from $10.5m at the same time last year. The company has not released profit figures, but anticipates earnings per share will sit between a break-even figure and $0.04, compared to the $0.14 it reported at the same time last year. The company claims it was unable to react fast enough to the recent problems in the Asian market and has warned sales will continue to be affected in the short term. But the company has tried to reassure shareholders and customers, arguing that it has a strong business that has been simply affected by geographical problems.
