White Oak Semiconductor, the joint venture between Siemens AG’s Semiconductor Group and Motorola Inc’s semiconductor products sector (CI No 2,918) has placed an order worth over $100m with Applied Materials Inc. Shipments from Applied Materials to White Oak’s new fab plant in Richmond, Virginia – which will employ between 1,000 and 1,500 people when it is fully operational – are expected to start in October and will include a variety of advanced manufacturing tools for wafer processing and metrology.
