Applied Materials Inc has described a patent infringement suit filed against it by arch rival Novellus Systems Inc as beingwithout merit. Novellus has accused Novellus of infringing its patents by making, using and selling Endura and Centura physical vapor deposition systems. Novellus says it acquired patents with the acquisition of Varian Associates Inc’s Thin Film Systems business.
