Apple Computer Inc’s IIgs 16-bit version of the venerable Apple II has triumphantly confounded the naysayers who characterised the machine as the last kick from a dying line: Daniel Benton of Goldman Sachs & Co reckons that Apple shipped 100,000 IIgs computers in its fiscal first quarter to account for $100m to $150m of the $1,030m total – double the rate he had expected; he also reckons that the company shipped 190,000 Mac SEs and Pluses, 10% ahead of his forecast.
