Apple is all set to unveil the latest version of its iPad on Wednesday.

The first major media event of Apple, following the death of its founder Steve Jobs, will see the release of a new device, which will be capable of operating on a high-speed 4G (LTE), a source familiar with the product was quoted as saying by Reuters.

It is expected that the iPad 3 will feature a higher resolution display, a faster processor and Siri artificial intelligence assistant software.

Frost & Sullivan analyst Phil Harpur told the news agency the new iPad will be "critical" to Apple if it is to continue to dominate the global tablet market.

Among other things, it is expected that the iPad 3 will be slightly thicker to accommodate the new features.

Taiwanese publication Digitimes predicts Apple to launch two iPad 3 models — a 16GB edition and 32GB version.
