Apple Computer Inc’s external AppleFax Modem facsimile extension for the Macintosh is back on the market after a four-month absence caused by firmware problems, according to Microbytes Daily: the $700 modem, which enables Macintosh computers to send and receive faxes from standard Group 3 facsimile machines, can also be used to exchange data files with other Macintoshes equipped with AppleFax Modems; the modem needs the System 6.0.3 release of the Macintosh software, and firmware revision 1.2 enables the modem to operate in various telephone environments such as with PABXs, and provides added reliability and performance, Apple says; the Applefax Modem is at present available in the US and Canada.
