Apple Computer Inc has been awarded a $1m contract by the US Defense Department to explore and validate the application of Newton Personal Digital Assistant technologies in the medical sector. Apple will collaborate with KPMG-Peat Marwick on the ProMED project, which began in October and runs through to August, to investigate how the Pentagon can improve health care services, streamline processes and lower health care costs by using Newtons.
