Apple Computer Inc launched Mac OS 9.0 at the Seybold publishing conference yesterday, promising delivery in October. The operating system will go on sale for $99. Originally code-named Sonata and numbered Mac OS 8.7, the new edition has 50 new features. Aside from those already reported – such as Sherlock 2 internet searching, the Voice Password feature and Multiple User Accounts (CI No 3,719) – the new additions to the OS include Keychain, a method of unlocking multiple passwords from a single program, an Auto Updating feature to automatically upgrade to future operating system releases, built-in encryption, file sharing extended from LANS and WANs to the internet, and a network browser for finding internet servers. Also included will be Applescript over TCP/IP, which enables Applescript users to manage workflow tasks over the internet as well as LANs. á
