APPLE USES ROLAND’S SOUND CANVAS FOR QUICKTIME 3.0

Apple Computer Inc has gone to Roland Corp to license the MIDI-compatible Sound Canvas sound set and GS Format extensions widely used in the music industry, for inclusion in QuickTime version 3.0 for MacOS and Windows. The deal marks an expansion of QuickTime’s musical capabilities for multimedia content publishers. Microsoft Corp went to Roland for its sounds back in October 1996 (CI No 3,207).
