Apple Computer Inc has gone to Symantec Corp for its Just In Time Java compiler for the PowerPC, and says it plans to incorporate the technology into its MacOS Runtime for Java virtual machine, due out with the Mac OS 8.5 Allegro operating system release this fall. Apple’s interim CEO Steve Jobs admitted to the audience at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose that initial versions of Apple’s Java Virtual Machine were slow in comparison to the comparable Microsoft Corp on the Pentium II. Apple said it new virtual machine would be compatible with JVMs from Microsoft and Sun Microsystems Inc.
