Apple Computer Inc will start shipping the Windows version of its QuickTime multimedia software this month, chief executive John Sculley said, adding that QuickTime may be the most successful new technology that Apple has introduced since the original Macintosh; he also previewed the Caspar speech recognition system that Apple is developing at the Macromedia show in San Francisco – in response to spoken commands, the computer was able to write cheques, schedule appointments in the user’s diary, and give a spoken confirmation that commands had been implemented; Sculley said hopes it will be in some Macs at some some time in the not to distant future; on CD-ROMs, he said that Apple was selling them at cost in order to get the market moving.
