Apple Computer Inc is planning to lay off up to 500 people in its US sales and marketing division as part of continuing efforts to cut costs in the face of rapidly falling prices, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The paper quoted unidentified industry and company sources and said Apple was planning the cuts for the end of the month at its Apple USA unit.Apple said last week that 345 jobs at its one-time flagship automated Fremont, California plant would go.
