A spokesman for Sony Corp declined comment on a report in Asahi Shimbun that it has agreed to develop a new multimedia product with Apple Computer Inc and Motorola Inc. The Asahi reported that Sony, Apple and Motorola will jointly develop a home computer for multimedia applications which will be slightly smaller than a notebook personal computer. First marketing would be in the US next year. The agreement is said to cover an international operating system for multimedia products that would use Flash memory and have a high performance liquid-crystal display and multimedia communication interfaces. The paper also said that the three firms plan to invite AT&T Co, IBM Corp and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co to join the project.
