Apple Computer Inc is now shipping the Workgroup Server 60 entry-level file and print server, and the mid-range Apple Workgroup Server 80 file and print and communications server. Both come with the Macintosh System 7.1 and the newly announced Appleshare version 4.0 pre-installed. AppleShare 4.0 provides file and print server services and is designed to boost server performance some two or more times that of its predecessor AppleShare 3.0, according to the company. The Workgroup Server 60 uses a 20MHz Motorola Inc 68040 microprocessor and comes with 8Mb memory expandable to 68Mb, built-in Apple Superdrive, built-in Ethernet, and a choice of 230Mb or 500Mb disks. Prices range from $3,000 to $3,900.The Workgroup Server 80 has a 33MHz 68040 with 8Mb to 136Mb of interleaved memory, built-in Apple Superdrive, built-in Ethernet, and a 500Mb or 1Gb disk. Prices start at $5,500 rising to $9,100. Either of the new Workstation Servers can be optionally equipped with an internal CD-ROM. The company is also expected to add a Quadra 840AV with a 40MHz 68040 microprocessor this week and a Centris 660AV with a 25MHz 68040 at from $2,140 wih 8Mb.
