Apple’s new Newton Personal Digital Assistant finally comes alive again this week, when Apple launches two new models on Thursday. According to InfoWorld, the next-generation Newtons will feature enhanced communications and run the new Newton 2.1 operating system. The company is also working on a larger handheld device that will include a World Wide Web browser and vertical market software for education, medical, and mobile professionals. They will also offer handwriting recognition capabilities, and are expected to use Digital Equipment Corp’s StrongARM SA-110 version of the Advanced RISC Machines Ltd RISC: Apple holds a significant stake in the Cambridge, UK chip designer. The devices are expected to be available in 100MHz, 160MHz and 200MHz versions and to cost from $700 to $1,000.
