Apple Computer Inc duly announced its SoftMac Macintosh under Unix emulator (CI No 2,370), calling the thing the Macintosh Application Environment and initially offering it for HP-UX on Hewlett-Packard Co’s HP 9000 Series 700 workstations and Sun Microsystems Inc Sparcstations under Solaris. It puts up the 68000 Mac application in an X Window and gives it the same look and feel as on the Mac. It costs $550 single-user and will be available late next month.
